At that moment I noticed:
- The day care lady carrying crates of milk to the hall for the children who arrive early for breakfast
- The Deputy coming in early to proof read reports, as he had to head out later that morning with a group of children to a local school event
- The gardener helping set up an area for the landscape workers who were coming in to do some work at the front of the school
- The sports teacher rolling out the portable barbecue to cook up a breakfast for the children who were coming for the early morning running club
These actions were all done in overtime hours. Each person greeted me with an open smile and asked what I was up to that morning.
At that moment I witnessed the absolute dedication and love of my colleagues. No matter if they were teaching or not, they were providing support for the children before the start of the day.
It is this golden moment that reminds me that the dedication I have for teaching is felt and shown by many in our school community. This overtime is not seen as a burden at all, but what you do when you love the work you’re in.
