Recently a work colleague and I, who I have not really spoken to before got to chat. I was deeply touched with the openness and honesty of our conversation. I got to appreciate that when I am open, real and honest that it allows another to relate and be just as open, honest, and be able to speak about how things really are.
Initially when coming into my class, she commented on how my class looked and felt, she shared how she saw me as grounded and steady. She told me about what another teacher who has been working in my class had shared with her about me. At this moment I appreciated the power that our reflection can have. That I was able to inspire others by me, just doing my thing, in my way. This was all a confirmation of what I bring as a teacher and a valued expression of appreciation.
For me, my colleague has highlighted the importance of us as teachers expressing appreciation for each other. Each one of us brings something very amazing and by us saying those appreciations to each other, we are in fact confirming the Gold that lies within.
